When you stay at The Intrepid, you’re right in the middle of everything that makes Duluth feel like home. We wanted to put together a guide from someone who lives here, not just what you find on a travel brochure. These are the places locals actually go and the things we think are worth your time.
Take a walk along the Lakewalk
Link: Duluth Lakewalk
The Lakewalk is a staple. You can start near Canal Park and make your way along the shoreline, passing people walking dogs, families on bikes, and folks just out enjoying the view. Some days you’ll catch a ship coming through the lift bridge, which never gets old.

Explore the Lincoln Park Craft District
Link: Lincoln Park
This area has really grown over the last few years. Places like OMC Smokehouse, Love Creamery, and Frost River Outfitters give it a unique mix of great food, handmade goods, and small-business charm. Bent Paddle is a local brewery that often has food trucks and live music too.
See a show at the NorShor Theatre
Link: NorShor Theatre
The NorShor is one of those places where you can catch a high-quality show and also feel connected to the community. They put on plays, concerts, and all kinds of local performances. The building itself is worth seeing and it’s just a short walk from The Intrepid.
Hike one of Duluth’s scenic trails
Links: Ely’s Peak and Enger Tower
For a bit of nature, Duluth has trails everywhere. Ely’s Peak is a good one if you want a bit of a workout with some amazing views at the top. If you’re looking for something easier, Enger Tower offers a nice view of the city and a peaceful park to walk around.
Treat yourself at Love Creamery
Link: Love Creamery
Locals love this spot for a reason. The flavors are creative and always changing. They use local ingredients and you can tell. It’s the perfect stop after dinner or just because. There’s a location in Canal Park and another in Lincoln Park.
Tour the Glensheen Mansion
Link: Glensheen Mansion
Glensheen gives you a look at Duluth’s history and also has some of the nicest lakefront property in town. The mansion tours are interesting and the grounds are open for walking. It’s quiet and beautiful and feels like stepping back in time.
Grab a coffee at Duluth Coffee Company
Link: Duluth Coffee
This spot roasts their own beans right downtown. It’s the kind of place where the coffee is strong, the vibe is calm, and you’re just a few steps from The Intrepid. A good spot to read, relax, or plan out your day.
Watch the sunset from Skyline Parkway
Link: Skyline Parkway
This road winds through the hills above Duluth and offers incredible views of the lake and city. Locals head here to clear their heads and watch the sun go down. There are several pull-off spots, or you can park and walk the trails nearby.
Come back to The Intrepid
After a full day out, The Intrepid is a quiet place to return to. You can walk to a lot of what’s on this list or hop in the car and be anywhere in 10 minutes. Each suite is designed to feel like home and give you space to relax, recharge, and enjoy your time in Duluth.
